![]() It’s easy to overload electrical circuits during heat waves. Thankfully, we managed to avoid a more serious incident. All the outlets on the upper level, and the breaker in the basement, were replaced. A recently purchased air-conditioner unit in one of the bedrooms had overloaded the circuit and was causing an outlet to overheat and arc. They sent out a truck with thermal imaging equipment to make sure there were no hot spots in our walls.Īfter they gave us the all-clear, they told us to leave the breaker off until an electrician could assess the problem and fix it.Ī few days later, the electricians quickly found the problem. We contacted the fire department to ask what else we should do. Richard turned off the breaker, and then we unplugged everything on the upstairs level. The smell of melting plastic grew stronger, so I alerted my husband, Richard, and together we searched for the source.Įventually, I touched one of the wall outlets in the office and realized it was hot. That’s when I noticed the smell of cooking electronics.
